Antonino Caponnetto

Antonino Caponetto ( born September 5, 1920 in Caltanissetta, † December 6, 2002 in Florence ) was an Italian judge and politician.

Caponetto began his career as an Italian judge in 1954. His career got a turn when he had himself transferred after the assassination of Rocco Chinnici 1983 to Palermo. In the fight against terrorism Caponetto took over the strategy of Giancarlo Caselli. Accordingly, he set up a pool, ie a group of prosecutors who should devote all their energy to the struggle against the Mafia. This pool consisted of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, Giuseppe Di Lello and Leonardo Guarnotta. The pool under the direction of Capo Nettos prepared the large process of the 1990s against the Mafia. It relied primarily on the testimony of the former mobster and key witnesses ( pentito ) Tommaso Buscetta.

Caponetto ended his career in 1990. According to the assassinations of Giovanni Falcone on May 23, 1992, and in Paolo Borsellino on July 19, 1992 Caponetto devoted his life to continue the fight against illegality. In 1993 he was a candidate for the party group "La Rete " in the local elections in Palermo and was president of the city council. At the end of his life a series of lectures led him across Italy in schools. He described the young people 's fight against the Mafia and the Sicilian Cosa Nostra.
