Antonio Borja Won Pat

Antonio Borja Won Pat ( born December 10, 1908 in Sumay, Guam, † May 1, 1987 in Silver Spring, Maryland ) was an American politician (Democratic Party) and first CEO of "organized nichtinkorporierten territory of Guam " in the House of Representatives of the United States.

Life

Won Pat has worked since 1926 as a teacher. From 1934 to 1939 he was headmaster in Piti, Inarajan and Sumay. From 1940 until the end of World War II, he taught at George Washington High School in Agana.

His political career began in 1936 when he was elected to the Advisory Guam Congress. Later he was a member of the Guam Assembly and of the emerging Guam Legislature. In the latter, he served in the 1st, 2nd, 4th to 7th parliamentary terms as Speaker. An office that Won Pat had already held in the Guam Assembly. In 1965 he became the first representative of Guam in Washington, DC. In 1968 his re-election to that office. In 1972 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In the same year Won Pat was elected as a Democrat to the 93rd Congress, becoming the first delegates of Guam in the House of Representatives of the United States. The House of Representatives was after five successful re- elections of 3 January 1973 to 3 January 1985. After his retirement from the House of Representatives he lived until his death in Sina Jana, Guam.

He died on 1 May 1987 in Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland to a myocardial infarction and was buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Piti, Guam. Won Pat was married and had eight children. His daughter Judith T. Won Pat is also politically active. The Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport in Hagåtña is named after him.
