Antonio Brioschi

Antonio Brioschi (* 1700, † after 1750 ) was an Italian composer of the early classical period.

Life and work

About Brioschi's life is so far not known. He was 1725-1750 in or near Milan and is regarded as the composer of the Milanese school. His works are comparable with those of the better-known Giovanni Battista Sammartini; multiple houses works of both composers published collections together, so that the authorship is difficult to clarify some works.

Stylistically are Brioschi works between baroque and classical style. Your usually in three movements, cyclic structure and the design of the slow movements are reminiscent of the concerts and opera symphonies of the late Baroque; the varied themes and instrumentation, in particular the head sets other hand, has advance to the Classic.

It was especially popular Brioschi's music in Paris, Prague, Stockholm, and Darmstadt. The publisher Breitkopf & Härtel led already in the 1760s 29 Works Brioschi in its catalogs. About 30 libraries in Europe and North America have copies of Brioschi's works.

Works

Brioschi left behind an extensive oeuvre. Worth mentioning are called his 26 symphonies, overtures, which are preserved in manuscript in the so-called "Fund Blancheton " in the National Library in Paris and are regarded as the earliest Italian symphonies, which use the sonata form. The majority of known as Sonata a tre works are so-called orchestral trios, how they are to be found in Stamitz, Hasse, Wagenseil and other early Symphony.
