Antonio Caldara

Antonio Caldara (* 1670 in Venice, † December 28, 1736 in Vienna ) was an Italian cellist and composer. He is one of the composers of the Venetian late Baroque.

Life

Caldara received his musical training with Giovanni Legrenzi probably in Venice. From 1700 to 1707 he worked as a conductor in Mantua. In 1708 he composed for the Emperor Charles VI. the second act of the opera " L' Atenaide ". From 1709 to 1716 Caldara was employed in Rome.

After moving in 1716 to Vienna Caldara was the first Vice-Kapellmeister of the Vienna court orchestra at the imperial court under Johann Joseph Fux. He made ​​off with about 3400 composed works, especially in the field of vocal music, including more than 80 operas, 43 oratorios, about 150 trade shows, serenades, cantatas, symphonies and a name. His music is characterized by great wealth of melody.
