António Câmara

António Pereira de Sousa da Câmara (* 1901 in Lisbon, † July 19, 1971 ) was a Portuguese agronomist.

Career

Sousa da Câmara studied at the Instituto de Agronomy e Veterinária. He then lived in the United States, in Germany and in Great Britain, where he became a pioneer in the field of genetics.

After returning to the Instituto de Agronomy e Veterinária he took over the chairs of agriculture and agricultural engineering. In 1936, he was the founder and first director of the Estação Agronomica Nacional. He also founded the Fachschriften Agronomy Lusitana and Genética (Madrid ) and was president of the Portuguese Commission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ( FAO).
