António Correia de Oliveira

António Correia de Oliveira ( born July 30, 1878 in São Pedro do Sul, Viseu District, Portugal, † February 20, 1960 at Quinta do Belinho, community Esposende, Distrik Braga, Portugal) was a Portuguese poet, playwright and journalist. Along side António Sardinha and Afonso Lopes Vieira as one of the great fundamentalist and nationalist poet of Portugal in the 20th century. At the same time he was also one of the official poet of the " Estado Novo " in Portugal.

Life

António Correia de Oliveira was born the son of José Correia de Oliveira and Joaquina Augusta de Figueiredo Almeida. He first studied in Viseu, but moved to Lisbon, where he continued his studies later and finished. Then he had worked until his retirement as a Higher employee of the public service in a senior position, at the same time he wrote regularly for the newspaper Diario Ilustrado as a journalist.

De Oliveira was married to a daughter of one of the highest families of Portugal and had with her two sons. His brother João Correia de Oliveira was a playwright.

His work, especially his lyrical, was characterized by Neogarrettismo, neo-romanticism, nationalism, patriotism, fundamentalism, Saudosismus, monarchism and although a good friend of Teixeira de Pascoaes - he refused his metaphysics. Influences of Antero de Quental and Guerra Junqueiro can also be seen. He also wrote for such well-known magazines such as A Aguia, Atlantida, Azul Ave, Seara Nova.

António Correia de Oliveira was the first Portuguese writer who was nominated for a Nobel Prize in Literature. Although there were over 15 nominations, he has never received it.

In Coimbra, Póvoa de Varzim Amadora and streets are named after him.

Since 1912 he had lived on the estate of Quinta do Belinho, where he also died in years.
