Antonio Farnese, Duke of Parma

Antonio Farnese (* November 29, 1679; † January 20, 1731 ) was the youngest son of the Duke Ranuccio II Farnese of Parma and Piacenza. When his older brother Francesco Farnese, who succeeded his father on February 26, 1727 died childless, Antonio followed him on the throne.

Antonio Farnese was the last in the male line of the Farnese family and also remained unmarried until his accession to the throne. A year after his brother's death, on February 5, 1728, he married, now 48 years old, Enrietta d' Este ( 1702-1777 ), daughter of the Duke Rinaldo d' Este of Modena. When Antonio Farnese, died just three years later, he had no offspring.

His heir was his niece Elisabetta Farnese (1692-1766), the only surviving member of the family who was married to the Spanish King Philip V of the Bourbon dynasty since 1714. She gave the duchy, but also the possession in and around Rome - Palazzo Farnese, Villa Farnese, Villa Farnesina, but especially the Farnese collections - to his son Charles III. further.
