Antonio Lolli

Antonio Lolli (* 1725 in Bergamo, † August 10, 1802 in Palermo ) was an Italian violinist and composer in the transition from late baroque to classicism.

Life

Lolli was one of the most famous violinists of the 18th century such as Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint -Georges for whom he was in 1764 and in 1768 wrote works as a lollipop in Paris. He was from 1758 to 1774 violin soloist of the court orchestra in Stuttgart and made many trips offentsichtlich. The Empress Catherine II hired him as chamber violinist ( 1774-1783 ) to Saint Petersburg, a post which he, gave up due to the climatic conditions, as he had expressed Dittersdorf opposite. After that, he gave concerts in Warsaw, Stettin, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Scandinavia. In 1794 he was Kapellmeister at the Royal Court Orchestra in Naples.

Works

He has published nine violin concertos, of which the Concerto No. 7 in G major which he aufführte in Paris in 1775 at the Concert Spirituel, had the most success. Six challenging sonatas ( Duets ) Op. 9 1785 for two violins, three collections of six sonatas for violin and basso continuo (1760, 1769, 1767). 36 Caprices for solo violin. The Textbook: L' école du violon en quatuor (Berlin, 1784) appeared until 1804 in five editions.

His son Filippo Lolli (* 1773 in Stuttgart, death date not known ) became known as a cellist.
