Antonio Maria Vegliò

Antonio Maria Cardinal Vegliò ( born February 3, 1938 in Macerata Feltria, Pesaro and Urbino, Italy ) is a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Antonio Maria Vegliò received on 18 March 1962, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He received his doctorate in canon law in the tray. 1968 Vegliò entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He served in the Apostolic Nunciature in the UK, Peru, the Philippines and Senegal.

On July 27, 1985, Pope John Paul II appointed Titular Archbishop of Aeclanum and Apostolic Pro- Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli on 6 October of the same year; Archbishop Achille Silvestrini and co-consecrators were Bishop Gaetano Michetti. On October 21, 1989 John Paul II appointed him as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea -Bissau and Mali. In 1994, Antonio Maria Vegliò Apostolic Nuncio for these countries. On 2 October 1997 Vegliò was Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon and Kuwait. He joined on 13 December 1999 as Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait back. On 11 April 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.

On February 28, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. President of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People. In solemn consistory of February 18, 2012 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Cesareo in Palatio in the College of Cardinals.
