Antonio Minturno

Antonio Sebastiano Minturno, Latinized Anthony Sebastian Minturnus (* 1500 in Traietto ( Minturno ), † 1574 in Crotone), was an Italian bishop, writer and humanist.

Minturno studied philosophy at Agostino Nifo. To 1559 he was Bishop of Ugento in Apulia, and took part in this function at the Council of Trent. From 1565 he was Bishop of Crotone in Calabria.

He is known as author of a written in Italian poetics (L' arte poetica, 1564), a very complete discussion of previous sealing and dramas theories, a work which is heavily influenced by Aristotle and Horace, though Minturno also has itself to say something.
