Antonio Moreno Casamitjana

Antonio Moreno Casamitjana ( born July 9, 1927 in Santiago de Chile, Chile, † July 31, 2013 in Concepción ) was a Roman Catholic theologian and Archbishop of Concepción.

Life

Antonio Moreno Casamitjana studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Seminary of Santiago and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He received on December 4, 1949 and was ordained priest in the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile operates. Antonio Moreno was a professor and rector at the Pontifical Seminary of Santiago and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he was also dean of the theological faculty and member of the Senate.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on 22 April 1986 in Santiago de Chile and Titular Bishop of Mades. His motto was " Anunciaré tu verdad " (I'll explain your truth ). He has served as episcopal vicar in charge of the northern part of the diocese. He was also Chairman of the Commission for the communication of the Chilean Episcopal Conference.

He was appointed on 14 October 1989 Archbishop of Concepción, and introduced into the office on 12 November of the same year. He was appointed to the Pontifical Commission for Latin America in 1989, and from 1990 also advisor to the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non - believers. He became a member of the Pastoral Commission of the Bishops' Conference of Chile and 1995 member of the Standing Committee of the Conference in 1993. He was Chancellor of the Universidad Catolica de la Santisima Concepcion, which he had founded in 1991.
