Antonio Poma

Cardinal Antonio Poma (born 12 June 1910 in Villanterio, Pavia, Italy Province; † September 24, 1985 in Bologna) was Archbishop of Bologna.

Life

Antonio Poma received his theological training at Pavia and Rome. He received in 1933 the sacrament of Holy Orders and was then secretary to the bishop of Pavia and teacher at the diocesan seminary, he served as rector from 1947 to 1951.

1951 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Titular Bishop of Thagaste and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Mantua, a year later the Coadjutor Bishop of the diocese. In 1954, Antonio Poma Bishop of Mantua. In the years 1962 to 1965, he took part in the Second Vatican Council. Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1967 Titular Archbishop of Hierpiniana and Koadjutorerzbischof in Bologna. A year later he followed Giacomo Cardinal Lercaro after its age-related resignation as Archbishop of Bologna. In 1969, Paul VI him. as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Luca a Via Prenestina in the College of Cardinals. In the same year Antonio Poma President of the Italian Episcopal Conference. If there are several celebrations, he represented the Pope as Papal Envoy. In 1983 he resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of Bologna because of illness. Antonio Poma died on September 24, 1985 in Bologna, and was buried in the local cathedral.
