Antonio Porchia

Antonio Porchia ( born November 13, 1885 in Conflenti (Calabria ), † November 9, 1968 ) was an Argentine writer ( lyricist ) of Italian origin.

When his father died in a work accident in 1900, Antonio Porchia emigrated to Argentina. His living he earned in a variety of professions. He became known for his work " Voces ", a collection of aphorisms, which he already published in Spanish.

At the latest with the translation into English by the writer WS Merwin won Porchia for André Breton, Henry Miller, among others Cult status. But Enrique Banchs, Jorge Luis Borges and Roberto Juarroz confirmed Porchias influence on her work. By the laconic language in which the scarce verses were held, Porchia was repeatedly compared in literary criticism with the Japanese haikus.
