Antonio Rosmini-Serbati

Count Antonio Rosmini Serbati ( born March 25, 1797 in Rovereto, then Austria, † July 1, 1855 in Stresa, Italy) was a priest, religious founder, philosopher and is considered one of the last universal scholar. Since 2007 he has been a blessed of the Catholic Church.

Life

Antonio Rosmini targeted against the will of his father in the priesthood, studied in Pavia and Padua and was ordained a priest in 1821. In 1813 he was admitted to the Accademia degli Agiati in his hometown. He designed a new statute which was enacted in 1825, and was elected several times as president. In 1828 he founded the Istituto della Carita, a religious community, which is also known under the name Rosminians and in 1839 received its papal approbation.
