Antonio Saca

Elías Antonio Saca González ( born March 9, 1965 in Usulután ) is a Salvadoran media entrepreneur and politician. He was elected on 21 March 2004 the President of El Salvador and held the office from 1 June 2004 until the end of May 2009. He belongs to the right-wing ARENA party.

Prior to his political career, he was a famous football commentator. Saca is the son of Palestinian immigrants.

Life

Saca was born in 1965 in Usulután and moved in the late 1970s in the capital of El Salvador, San Salvador. His parents were Palestinian immigrants and originally came from Bethlehem. He attended from 1979, the Instituto Cultural Miguel de Cervantes and began to work in broadcasting. He graduated while at the Colegio Cristóbal Colón. He left the radio station and was sports editor of other radio stations. Later, he found work in television, where he was sports director for over twelve years. For his reporting, he has received several awards.

Policy

In 1987, Saca Radio América, in which he combined several state radio stations founded. In the following years he directed these stations and in 1997 he moved into the union of the radio station of El Salvador, whose president he was in the next four years. In addition, he was elected twice as president of a trade association, which he succeeded in entering politics. As early as 1997 he had joined the right-wing ruling party Alianza Republicana Nacionalista ( ARENA ). In the presidential elections of 2004, Saca was surprisingly clear prevail with 57.7 % of the vote against Shafik Jorge Handal. On 1 June 2004 he went to the president.
