Antônio Sarto

Antônio Sarto SDB ( born February 27, 1926 in Lins, São Paulo, Brazil, † September 29, 2008 in Campinas, São Paulo) was Bishop of Barra do Garças.

Life

Antônio Sarto entered the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco in, laid on March 2, 1941 profession and studied philosophy from 1942 to 1944 in Lorena, 1948-1951 Theology in São Paulo. He received on 1 June 1951, the ordination at the headquarters of the Order in Turin. Until 1971 he was Director of Studies of various colleges in São Paulo, in 1971, he had been appointed to the Provincial Bursar of the province of São Paulo.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 24 May 1971 Titular Bishop of Arae in Mauretania and appointed him coadjutor of the Prelature of Porto Velho, Rondonia, Brazil. He received his episcopal consecration on August 15, 1971, the Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil and later Cardinal, Umberto Mozzoni; Bishop João Batista Costa were co-consecrators SDB, Prelate of Porto Velho, and Bishop Miguel d' Aversa SDB, Prelate of Humaitá in the Amazon region. His choice was saying "Ex hominibus, per hominibus " ( "Of the people, for the people ").

Pope John Paul II appointed him to survey the Prelature of Porto Velho to the diocese in 1979, Coadjutor Bishop. 1982 he was appointed first bishop of the Diocese of Barra do Garças, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cuiabá. His age-related resignation was accepted on 23 May 2001 by Pope John Paul II.

In 2007 he published a revision of the translation into Portuguese of the lexicon " Lexicon - Termos Ambiguos e discutidos família sobre vida e questões éticas " about family, life and ethical issues, published by the Pontifical Council for the Family.

He died of cancer. Bishop Sarto was buried in Campinas.
