António Vilar

António Vilar (actually António Vilar dos Santos Júnior Justinanodos; born October 31, 1912 in Lisbon; † August 16, 1995 in Madrid) was a Portuguese actor.

Life

Vilar played amateur theater and had radio experience when he was in 1930 by Leitao de Barros in the first Portuguese sound film, A severa occupied. In the 1940s he was, since his breakthrough performance as a guitarist Carlos O Bonito in the pátio cantigas 1942, at one of the major heartthrob of the cinema screens in his home country. Four years later he moved to Spain, where the film industry promised greater success, and has received numerous roles for the European, particularly Iberian, genre cinema a sought-after performer elegant men and successful, although sometimes shady businessmen. After his last film in 1978, Estimado Señor Juez, he devoted himself to his dream project. Since both Portugal and Spain failed financial support, a planned film about Ferdinand Magellan remained unrealized.
