Antonios Kriezis

Antonios Kriezis (Greek Αντώνιος Κριεζής; Albanian Antonios Kryeziu, Schwarzkopf ) (* 1796 in Troizen, † 1865 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former Prime Minister.

Kriezis came from a respected family arvanitischen of the island of Hydra. During the Greek War of Independence of 1821 he served in the Navy and participated in the battles of Samos and Spetses. In 1825 he put together with Konstantinos Kanaris fire on an Egyptian ship in the port of Alexandria. In 1828 he was appointed by Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias commodore of a naval squadron. In this office he conquered Vonitsa in today's prefecture Etoloakarnania by the Ottoman occupiers.

In 1836 he was appointed by King Otto I to the Secretary of the Navy. From August 1841 to the riots of September 3, 1843, he was under this de facto President of the Ministerial Council even if the king officially held this office itself.

Of 24 December 1849 to 28 May 1854, he finally was Prime Minister of up to this point exceptionally long and stable government.
