AN/TPQ-36 Firefinder radar

The AN/TPQ-36 is an artillery reconnaissance radar, which was developed to replace the older AN/MPQ-4 and artillery reconnaissance radars. In the Enlightenment, it is supported by the AN/TPQ-37. With different software, the vision- Shelter can be used as hardware for both radars.

The location of enemy projectiles happens when AN/TPQ-36 automatically. The system scans the horizon electronically in a width of 90 ° several times per second, automatically summarizes on missiles and rockets and accompanies those for the computational determination of the weapons position. The coordinates and the height of the enemy artillery position are displayed to the operator. The Automatic location is so fast that the data is already available before the bullet strikes.

In addition to this capability, other modifications are possible. Normal sector width from 90 ° can be extended to a full circle of 360 °. The radar can also be used for fire correction for the own artillery by the trajectories own projectiles are extrapolated.
