Antsirabe ( German: " where there is much salt" ) is a city in Madagascar with 200 804 inhabitants (as of February 13, 2009 ). It is the capital of Vakinankaratra region in the province of Antananarivo.

The city is located about 1,500 meters above sea level. It is to Fianarantsoa the main center of Betsileos country.

For the colonial period Antsirabe was named because of its thermal springs, the Vichy Madagascar.

Mohammed V and his son, the future King Hassan II of Morocco lived here in exile in 1955.

Business & Traffic

Antsirabe is the second largest Industriepol Madagascar. The largest textile factory in the country is located in this city. Antsirabe has an airport and is the capital Antananarivo on the National Highway 7 and a railway line connected.
