Antuco (volcano)

Antuco is a glaciated volcano about 450 km south of Santiago and 100 km east of Los Ángeles (Chile) in the Laguna del Laja National Park in the southern Andes. The summit is at an altitude of 2969 meters above sea level. The first ascent was made in 1829 by Eduard Poeppig and is regarded as the birth of mountaineering in Chile. On its slopes is a small ski area located at its foot the lake Laguna del Laja and a small village called Antuco.

Historical records show several outbreaks in the years 1750, 1752, 1820, December 18, 1828, February-March 1845 from November 1852 to January 1853 ( Promotion of 50 million cubic meters of lava), December 1863 and 1869.
