AN/UYK-43
The AN/UYK-43 was the standard 32 -bit computer, the United States Navy for over-water and underwater units from 1984. Until 2000, 1250 units were delivered. The computer is about the size of a refrigerator, replacing the older, also built by Unisys model AN/UYK-7. Both computers have the same instruction set. The so-called Open Systems Module ( OSM), an extension of UYK -43, allows the installation of up to six type 6U VMEbus expansion cards, which are commercially available ( commercial off -the-shelf ( COTS ) ), and thus less expensive than specialized military hardware are, in the case of the computer.
The UYK -43 is used on the frigates of the F122 and F123 type of the German Navy as a central computer in the SATIR composite.
The UYK -43 is replaced by the AN/UYQ-70 and other COTS systems. Decommissioning Asked units are cannibalized to supply still in service contained units with spare parts.
The 16 -bit version is the AN/UYK-44.
