Anyte of Tegea

Anyte of Tegea was a Greek poet of Tegea in Arcadia, who wrote in the first half of the 3rd century BC.

From Anyte about 20 epigrams are preserved, but some can not be assigned to secure. Nevertheless, more poems are known as her only by Sappho. She wrote grave inscriptions for humans and animals as well as poems about landscapes. In ancient times it was sometimes referred to as " female Homer " (AP 9, 26 ).
