Anything Goes

Anything Goes is a musical comedy with music and song lyrics by Cole Porter. The book was inspired by Guy Bolton and PG Wodehouse, the review by Russel Crouse and Howard Lindsay, who also directed. The production was the show of Vinton Freedley. The premiere took place on 21 November 1934 at the Alvin Theatre in New York. It was the first of five Broadway musicals ( Red, Hot and Blue, Du Barry Was a Lady, Panama Hattie, Something for the Boys) composed for the Cole Porter and in the Ethel Merman played the lead role. Other leading roles Gaxton William and Victor Moore were seen.

The first performance in London's West End on 14 June 1935 at the Palace Theatre was produced by Charles B. Cochran. The German -language premiere was held in the Palatinate Theatre Kaiserslautern on 10 February 1981. The translation into German for it came from Christian Severin, Hartmut H. Forche and Lida Winiewicz.

Action

On board the transatlantic liner S. S. America on the route New York-London meets a colorful society: the nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and former lay preacher in the company of their vaudeville Girls; ausersehenen the financially ailing widow Evangeline Harcourt accompanied by her daughter Hope and, as a wealthy son- Englishman Sir Evelyn Oakleigh; disguised as a priest crooks and public enemy No.1, Moonface Martin, accompanied by Bonnie, the bride " snake eye ", the most wanted criminal in America ( Public Enemy No. 1); a real spiritual dignitaries, accompanied by two missionierter Chinese who rip off passengers vigorously; the stockbroker Elisha Whitney and finally ( in addition to reporters, FBI agents and the rest of the crew ) his assistant, Billy Crocker, who insinuates itself as a stowaway to prevent the marriage of his new love Hope Harcourt with Sir Oakleigh with the help of his old friend Reno. For this reason, Billy must play different roles. Using a false identity, namely with the papers " snake eye ", he soon gets in the crosshairs of the wary captain, has to dress up as a sailor, but is revealed as alleged criminals, and, surprisingly, celebrated in the absence of other celebrities, as guest of honor. It was only when he reveals his true identity, he goes to jail, along with the false pastor and the two Chinese who were caught cheating. There he seizes with Moon Face of Chinese costumes, and now the two compromise, now as false Chinese, Sir Oakleigh, which is actually a gypsy, with his past in China, where he had an affair with an Asian beauty. Hope, who decided a long time for Billy and the game sees through, turning from Sir Oakleigh from and wants to atone for allegedly, one of the Chinese, Billy just get married. Sir Oakleigh makes little off, but now he has more pleasure in Reno found. Moonface Martin discovers to his dismay that he was deleted by the FBI of the public enemy list, but may be comforted with Bonnie. And Hope's mother Evangeline Harcourt is not empty; she takes the stockbroker Elisha Whitney, whose successful stock market business has made him a millionaire.

In the later revivals is a lord from Sir Evelyn Oakleigh. Snake eye bride Bonnie is named Erma.

Films

Anything Goes was filmed in 1936 by director Lewis Milestone with altered Score ( Score). The main roles Bing Crosby and Ethel Merman were seen. A 1956 Anything Goes version of Robert Lewis, also with Bing Crosby, only used a few songs from the Porter score.
