Ao Naga

The Ao Naga are a tribe of the Indian state of Nagaland.

Language and residential

In the 2001 census it consisted of 232,000 people. They speak the language Ao named after them. The cultural center of Ao is the town of Mokokchung.

The area of Ao is divided into so-called Tsukongs. There are six Tsukongs which consist of several small villages, towns with administrative facilities ( headquarters ). They are:

  • Ongpangkong,
  • Langpangkong,
  • Asetkong,
  • Changkikong,
  • Japukong and
  • Tsurangkong.
