Ao Nang

Province

Ao Nang ( Thai อ่าว นาง, such as " Lady Bay ") is a city in the province of Krabi in southern Thailand. Ao Nang is also the administrative seat and largest town of the same community ( tambon) of Krabi province.

Location

The small town with just 8,000 inhabitants, is located about 20 kilometers west of the provincial capital of Krabi, it is located on the eastern edge of Phang Nga Bay, a sea inlet of the Andaman Sea.

Economy

Originally a small fishing village, Ao Nang has developed into a highly frequented destination of the international mass tourism since the 1990s, from an insider tip for backpackers. The place has almost completely passed from its original structures and is set with its entire infrastructure on tourism, has become by far the most important economic factor of Ao Nang. This development was supported by the directly at the site located about two kilometers long, Ao Nang Beach with its views of the offshore islands, as well as the convenient location, just over 30 kilometers away from Krabi Airport ( KBV).

Attractions

Cultural attractions are not to be found in Tambon Ao Nang. On the other hand offers the tropical nature in the surrounding area include these sights:

  • The National Park Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดนพรัตน์ธารา-หมู่เกาะพีพ), which also the beach of Ao Nang belongs,
  • The Noppharat Thara beach ( Thai: หาด นพรัตน์ ธารา ) is also part of the National Park, it is located about 1 km west of Ao Nang Beach,
  • The beach of Railay peninsula (also: Raleigh or Railay, Thailand: อ่าว ไร่ เล ย์ ) is about 5 km south-east of the main beach of Ao Nang,
  • And other smaller caves.

A little further away:

  • The National Park Than Bok Khorani ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ธาร โบกขรณี ) with the Than Bok Khorani waterfall, natural pools and numerous caves, of which have to have some prehistoric cave paintings, is located in Amphoe Ao Luek in the northwest of the province,
  • The cave Tham Phet ( Diamond Cave - because of the glittering stalagmites and stalactites ) is 3 km from Ao Luek Nuea, Amphoe Ao Luek also in the northwest of the province of Krabi,
  • Cave Temple Wat Tham Sua with the Tiger Cave ( ถ้ำ เสือ - Tham Suea ) is located about 10 km north of the provincial capital of Krabi.

Current

The tsunami triggered by the earthquake in December 2004 also reached Ao Nang. By the offshore limestone rocks, which acted as a kind of breakwater, the damage was compared to other resorts in the region but within limits.

Management

The Tambon Ao Nang is divided into eight villages ( Muban ).
