The Aomori Airport (Japanese青森 空港, Aomori Kuko ) is the airport of the Japanese city of Aomori and lies about 6 km southwest of the city. The Aomori airport is considered by the Japanese legislation as third class airport and currently offers up a connection to Incheon airport in Seoul only domestic connections.

History

1964, the original Aomori airport was still open with a 1,200 meter long runway. In 1971, the runway to 1,350 m and 1972 extended to 1,400 m. After that there were only small extensions on the runway before then 1979-1987 a new airport was built, because the old could no longer be extended. The new airport was opened in July 1987.

At the opening of the airport had a 2,000 m long runway, which was in 1990 extended to 2,500 m.

Between 2000 and 2005 there was the last extension of the runway, which now has a length of 3,000 meters. In 2003, an instrument landing system of the type ILS CAT III was installed.
