Aoyama Cemetery

The cemetery Aoyama (Japanese青山 霊 园Aoyama bodies, which are colloquially青山 墓地, Aoyama Bochi ) is the known cemetery in Tokyo's Minami Aoyama in Minato district.

History

After the Meiji Restoration, was the site of the residence of the third over of the royal family Aoyama in urban property. After the site was first used as a Shinto burial place, became the September 1, 1874 from a general, public cemetery. At the cemetery not only many well-known Japanese are buried, but in a separate department also foreigners who worked in Tokyo in the Meiji era. This division is still not touched, although the cemetery administration would like to use the area for new tombs.

The largest with 263 564 m² cemetery ( the major axis is 750 m long) in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area is today crossed by two roads. On the picture you can see the location on a flat, rolling hills. At the time of the cherry blossom, the cemetery is a popular place for hanami. Under the cherry trees on the main Avenue and byways is then eaten and drunk peacefully happy.
