Apamea (Euphrates)

Apamea on the Euphrates (Greek: Απάμεια ) is an ancient city on the upper reaches of the river Euphrates in today Birecik (Turkey). The construction of the dam has Birecik disappear much of the city in its waters.

The town was founded by the Seleucid king Seleucus I Nicator ( 312-281 BC) named and is his wife Apamea. It is located across from Zeugma, with whom she was said to be connected by a bridge.
