Aparados da Serra National Park

Aparados da Serra means the hill country at the breaking edge of the plateau to the coastal region on the border of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, it is a most interesting of Brazil's natural attractions. It is adjacent to the Serra Geral, both are national parks in the Mata Atlântica.

National park

On 17 December 1959, the Parque Nacional da Serra de Aparados was founded with an area of 102.5 km ² in the municipalities Cambará do Sul and Praia Grande. The biggest attraction is the Canion do Itaimbezinho, a 5.8 km long and 600 m deep gorge with many waterfalls. Very often arises fog that hinders the view.

Because of the large differences in altitude there is both rain forest and upland forest with Araucaria and extended high moorland.

The fauna is also diverse. Some of the mammals maned wolf, cougar, hedgehog, possums, macaco - prego, howler monkeys, graxaim -do- mato, gato -do- mato, ocelots, armadillos. Many birds can be seen: King Vulture, the beautiful azure Raven ( Cyanocorax caeruleus), Papagaio de Peito Roxo (Amazona vinacea ), Tinamou, Quero Quero (Vanellus chilensis ). The park has tourist infrastructure and is easily accessible.

Check-in: Once a day at 06:15 clock runs a bus from Porto Alegre to Cambará. The drive over São Francisco de Paula takes four hours to complete. Another possibility of access consists of Torres on the coast about Praia Grande. On this route, a bus is daily from Torres to Cambará do Sul inserted at 16:00 clock. This trip takes three hours.
