Apartheid Museum

The Apartheid Museum is a museum in Johannesburg in South Africa's Gauteng province, where the apartheid is documented in South Africa - from the early beginnings, their formation in 1948, through its development until its completion in 1994 and the subsequent workup. Here also the historical and political context of international apartheid is explained. It is the only museum dedicated solely of apartheid.

In addition to individual exhibits the documentation is based on numerous texts, photographs, posters and films. Major areas of focus are the resolution of the Johannesburg district of Sophiatown 1955-1963 and the student uprising in Soweto in 1976.

The museum, which is located directly next to Gold Reef City, was opened in 2001. Its formation is based on an agreement within the framework of the licensing of the Gold Reef Casino. It is managed independently.
