Apatity

Apatity (Russian Апатиты, Finnish Apatiitti ) is a Russian city in the Murmansk Oblast. With 59 672 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) is the second largest city in the oblast.

History

The village was founded in 1935 in connection with the development of apatite - nepheline deposits in the nearby Chibinen, near the existing station since 1926 Bely on the Murmansk railway. From the name of the mineral apatite, the place name is derived. In 1966, the town rights.

Geography and transport
