Apaxco is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the metropolitan region around Mexico City. The seat of the municipality and the largest town in the municipality is Apaxco de Ocampo. The community had in 2010 27.521 inhabitants, its surface area is 75.9 km ².

The name comes from the Nahuatl Apaxco: apatztli means sieve, and co - means "place, location ", roughly " place where water flows ."

Geography

Apaxco located in the north of the State of Mexico, 90 km north of Mexico City.

The municipality is bordered to the north by Apaxco Ajacuba Atotonilco de Tula and in the state of Hidalgo, west Hueypoxtla, to the south Tequixquiac, in the southwest, and east again to Atotonilco de Tula.
