APC by Schneider Electric

American Power Conversion (APC) is a manufacturer of power and cooling solutions. Furthermore, the need for secure energy supply services are offered. This includes equipment for the home and for mobile applications. The main product range of APC Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), which are used primarily for servers or for securing buildings, tunnels, power plants, etc..

History

APC was founded in 1981 by three engineers from the MIT institute " Lincoln Labs ". Initially, the founders focused on the research and development of the use of solar energy. With the reduction of funds for research is oriented to APC to secure energy supplies and introduced in 1984, before the first UPS. APC achieved sales of USD 1.6 billion prior to sale to Schneider Electric.

Acquisition by Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric completed the APC acquisition on February 14, 2007 The acquisition was approved by the APC shareholders on 15 January.; the European Union approved the acquisition on the condition that Schneider Electric delivers the MGE UPS Systems activities below 10 kVA.

The range for MGE systems below 10 kVA was bought by Eaton. The acquisition was completed in late October 2007.
