Aperture grille

The stripe mask was invented by the company SONY and marketed under the trade name Trinitron. The system is a network of vertical thin wires, which is mounted in the color picture tube behind the screen. Other than the shadow mask and the mask is a slit aperture grille vertically tensioned wires or metal strips which are not connected to each other horizontally. Aperture grille tubes are particularly used in professional monitors, since they are characterized by particularly high speed and excellent image quality.

Through the gap between two wires of the electron beam occurs in the light emitting layer, which then emits the appropriate color as a visible light. As with the slit and the shadow mask tube, the stripe mask, the respective color shades strip of the electrons of the "false " electron beam (cf. slit mask ). The luminescent layer also consists of the three basic colors red, green and blue, arranged as in the Aperture Grille tube as vertical stripes next to each other. Due to the additive color mixing any colors can be represented in this way.

Due to their construction, the strip mask is particularly sensitive to mechanical vibrations. For this reason, sometimes holding two horizontal wires are used in monitors, give the wire mesh the necessary support. The necessary mechanical tension of the many wires required with retaining wire a rigid, solid steel frame in the interior of the tube. The wires are often designed as made from a strip of sheet metal strips. The width of the strip covers the entire width of the screen. In the sheet metal strip strips are etched with full image height in the area of the image. The metal strip is spot-welded under tension to the frame.

The figure shows a macro shot of a screen with stripes mask. In the picture in original size is good, the horizontal support wire to see which extends over the entire screen area. The two retaining wires are particularly visible on light backgrounds, interfere with use but barely. Due to the construction strip mask monitors have a higher permeability for the electron beams as monitors with a hole or slot mask. A result, less energy is converted into heat, but more into light. This results in a higher luminance and better contrast.
