Aphanopetalum resinosum

Aphanopetalum is the only plant genus of the family of Aphanopetalaceae in the order of the saxifrage -like ( Saxifragales ).

Description

The Aphanopetalum species are evergreen, creeping shrubs. The oppositely arranged leaves are constantly short-stalked, leathery and easy. The leaf margin is smooth or serrated. The stipules are small or absent.

The flowers can stand alone or be arranged to many in axillary, zymösen inflorescences. The small, hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are cruciform. It is a short flower cup ( hypanthium ) available. The four sepals are fused short only at their base; they increase in size during fruit formation. There are four tiny petals, these may also be omitted; both can occur even on a single plant. There are two circles, each with four fertile, mostly free stamens present. The pollen is tricolporate. Four carpels are fused to a partially ( quarterly to semi - ) inferior ovary. Each carpel contains only one ovule. There are four free pen available.

Are formed nut fruit on which the four sepals are clearly visible.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Aphanopetalum was formerly classified in the families of the Saxifragaceae and Cunoniaceae.

A synonym for Aphanopetalum Endl. is Platyptelea J.Drumm. ex Harv ..

In genus in the family and thus Aphanopetalum Aphanopetalaceae there are only two types. The genus has a disjoint area in Australia: It is native to the western and eastern Australia, but not in the areas in between.
