Aphareus

Aphareus (Greek Ἀφαρεύς ) In Greek mythology, the son of Perieres and Gorgophone.

Together with his brother Leucippus he ruled Messenia. After the death of his father married Gorgophone Oebalus, the king of Sparta. Aphareus took the daughter of this couple to wife, his half-sister arenes, after which he also called a city. With her he had two children: the twins Lynceus and Idas ( Aphariden ).

Aphareus gave his distant nephew Neleus ( son of Tyro and great-grandson of Aphareus ' grandfather Aiolos ) the coastal region to govern. After the death of his sons he appointed him as his successor.
