Apicius (2nd century AD)

Apicius was a Roman gourmets. He is mentioned only in the Deipnosophistai of Athenaeus. There is reported Apicius have developed a method that could be made with the oysters durable so the emperor Trajan on his campaign in Mesopotamia (about 115) did not have to give up oysters.

In the following the delivery of an ancient Roman cookbook Apicius wrote De re coquinaria a method for preserving oysters is specified.
