Apiol is a phenylpropanoid and an essential part of the essential oils of different varieties of parsley. Apiol is an isomer of Dillapiol.

In the Middle Ages apiolhaltige Preparations of women were used as a means to terminate the pregnancy. 1715 discovered the Leipzig pharmacist Heinrich Christoph Link Apiol in the steam distillation of parsley oil. 1855 found Joret and Homolle that treatment with Apiol helps very well with amenorrhea ( menstrual cramps ).

Apiol may cause allergic reactions, high doses cause liver and kidney damage.
