Apolima

Apolima is an island in Samoa, which lies between the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii Samoa of the state. The island is located 8 km northwest of Upolu and 9 km southeast of Savaii. Manono is located 2 km of the next.

Apolima is surrounded by a reef, larger ships can not therefore invest in the vicinity of the island, only by canoe you can reach the island from one of the neighboring islands.

The mainly composed of tuff rock island was once a volcano, whose caldera slipped a part in the Pacific. At the edge of the remaining caldera is now the only place on the island, Apolima - Uta, in which all live 88 inhabitants of the island.

The island belongs to the administrative district Aiga -i -le- Tai.

2006 Apolima was explained by its two neighboring islands of Manono and Nuulopa a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
