Apollo-Theater (Siegen)

The Apollo Theater in Siegen is an example without theater ensemble, which lists two to three productions per season. The house offers a blend of drama, concerts and musical theater. Director Magnus Reitschuster. The new building will replace the dilapidated and technically inadequate stage of town Siegen in Spandauerstrasse. The city of Siegen, Siegen-Wittgenstein and the State of North Rhine -Westphalia invested, supported by commercial and private donors, approximately 17 million euros.

Originally dating from the 1930s, and most recently partially used as open cinema building should be at the Jacob Scheiner Square just rebuilt. In the planning phase, however, was the decision to discontinue the existing building and build at the same place a completely new house. Only the historic façade has been preserved and still shapes the image of the site. On 15 November 2005, the foundation stone was laid, the topping-out ceremony was held on September 1, 2006, start of the first season was 31 August 2007.

The opening season

On every Saturday between Mai and August 2007 attended by over 6,000 citizens, the new theater building to visit the house. In this free public tours of the Apollo orchestra pit was to the gridiron, be visited by the Z- bridge to the light direction. Every first Monday of the month free theater tours are still offered.

The first performance was reserved only for children between six and twelve years. On 31 August 2007, 500 children looked after welcome by the Mayor of the City of Siegen the premiere of Apollo 's own production The Enchanted brothers.

In the first Apollo - season 174 events took place - for the most part guest performances. The enchanted brothers, Goethe's Iphigenie auf Tauris, a tribute to Adolf Busch and Kassandra on the novel by Christa Wolf: Besides four productions were brought to the stage, which were staged in conjunction with the existing of guest actors and directors Apollo Ensemble. As coproduction with the South Westphalian Philharmonic, the music stage Mannheim and the Viennese director and comedian Otto Schenk also as a performer of Mozart's one-act play in victories celebrated The Impresario its premiere.

Others

April 10, 3 May 2009, took place the first Siegen Biennale with great success. This was the largest theater festival in the region. Were performed Uncle Vanya from the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Munich Chamber Job Games, Death of a Salesman in a production of the Berlin theater, Spring Awakening! from the spectacle Hannover, The Golden Fleece from Cologne and Woyzeck by Grillo- Theater in Essen.
