Apollodorus of Artemita

Apollodorus (os) of Artemita ( on the Tigris ) was an ancient Greek historian of the first century BC However, its exact survival data are unknown.

Apollodorus of Artemita wrote a history of the Parthians in at least four books. The work has not survived, but was considered quite reliable. It was used mainly by Strabo, but used also by Athenaeus, and possibly also by Pompeius Trogus. What sources Apollodorus based exactly is unknown. Strabo quotes some passages from the Seleucid Empire report from the waste of Bactria ( Geographika 11,11 ).

The fragments of the historical work are collected in The fragments of Greek historians (No. 779 ) or in Brill 's New Jacoby ( with English translation, commentary and biographical sketch by Alexis D' skin Court ).
