Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands
The Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands or Islas Malvinas (Latin: Apostolica de Praefectura Insulis Falkland seu Malvinis ) is a community on the Falkland Islands Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture based in Stanley.
It was founded on 10 January 1952. Previously, the archipelago belonged to the Diocese of Punta Arenas. To the jurisdiction of the prefecture also includes South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
Even before the founding of the Apostolic Prefecture of various religious missionary work in this area. The Salesians of Don Bosco's missionary work from 1888 until the founding of the Apostolic Prefecture in 1952 on the Falkland Islands. The Mill Hill Missionaries missionary work from 1952 to 2002, as the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales took full responsibility for the church in the Falkland Islands.
