Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos

The Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos (Latin: apostolicus Vicariatus iquitosensis ) is located in Peru Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate with its headquarters in Iquitos.

History

The Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos was established on February 5, 1900 from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Chachapoyas as Apostolic Prefecture of San León del Amazonas. On February 22, 1921, the Apostolic Prefecture of San León del Amazonas was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

On August 1, 1945, the name of the Apostolic Vicariate of San León del Amazonas was changed to Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos.

The Apostolic Vicariate gave in its history several times parts of its territory from the creation of new apostolic prefectures.
