Appanoose County, Iowa

The Appanoose County is a county located in the state of Iowa in the United States. In 2010, the County had 12,887 inhabitants and a population density of 10 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Centerville.

Geography

The County is located in southern Iowa, on the south by Missouri and has an area of 1,337 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Appanoose County was formed on February 17, 1843 as a free signified territory. It was named for Appanoose, a chieftain of the Fox Indians, who did not participate in the Black Hawk War.

Today's district capital was formerly called Chaldea. Later it was renamed in honor of the former governor of Tennessee in Senterville Senter. Gradually from Senterville then Centerville.
