Appeln is an agriculturally coined the municipality of Beverstedt in the Elbe -Weser Triangle. It lies in the south of the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony. In addition to the self-contained capital of the place still consists of the districts of Abel Horst and Malse.

History

Was first mentioned Appeln in 1035, at that time under the name Appellenn. Archaeological finds urn, however, show that the place was inhabited much earlier.

In recent history was its longtime mayor, the farmer Nicholas Tietjen (1873-1924), of particular importance. He was from 1900 to 1924 and mayor of Appeln 1919-1924 Member of Parliament and member of the Tax Commission assessment of the County Council Geestemünde. In the years 1921-1923 inflation notgeprägten he organized food deliveries to the Lower Weser cities for the starving people. Last council and mayor before the formation of a unified community

The last municipal election was held on 9 September 2006. The nine members of the council were all of voters Community Appeln. Among them was a woman. Mayor was the former local fire chief of the volunteer fire department Appeln, Wilfried Geils, who sat for the SPD in the Council of Samtgemeinde Beverstedt. His deputy Andreas Wetjen was also on the board of nature and environmental protection association Frelsdorf and Appeln.

The coat of arms of the town shows the diagonally from bottom left to top right divided shield above a green apple with green stem and two green leaves on a silver background, and below on a red background a slanted golden ear of corn.

The apple notes on the interpretation of the toponym as an apple orchard, the ear of corn on agriculture as the main source of income.

Culture and sights

Appeln has a distinctive club life. In addition to the volunteer fire department with an active youth fire brigade is on site the nature and environmental protection association Frelsdorf and Appeln, the local rifle club and tennis club Appeln and the gymnastics and sports club Appeln.
