Appenans

Appenans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Appenans is located on 294 m, 1.5 km west of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and approximately 19 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located at the northern edge of the valley of the Doubs at the entrance in a short valley, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​4.07 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, the multiple turns in a about one kilometer wide flat Talniederung here flows to the west and at the same time forms the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flood plain up to the adjacent plateaus ( 320-350 m), which are divided by several small Taleinschnitte. The plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. To the north the land rises gradually to the north of the Causse Doubs. In the northwest has Appenans share at Forest Hills Le Replain at which 400 m is the highest point of the municipality is reached.

Neighboring communities of Appenans are Étrappe in the north, Médière and L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs in the east, rank in the south and Mancenans in the West.

History

Together with the Franche -Comté Appenans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today, the village is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The present village church of Appenans was built in the 20th century. It contains parts of the interior of the former church. Remains of a former mill which took advantage of the water power of the village Bach are obtained.

Population

With 427 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Appenans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​230-290 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Appenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
