Appenzell Castle

The ruin Clanx or "Burg Appenzell " is a medieval castle ruins north of Appenzell.

The castle was built in the early 13th century by the Barons of Sax under Abbot Ulrich of St. Gallen and she was a refuge of the abbots of the monastery of St. Gall. 1219, the plant was first mentioned.

Their destruction by the insurgent peasants broke out in 1401 the Appenzell Wars of Liberation. The excavation of the castle destroyed in 1402 was 1949.
