Appenzeller (chicken)

The Appenzell beard chicken is an old breed chickens from the Appenzell region ( Switzerland ), which is managed by the ProSpecieRara. It is called by the people of Appenzell " Bartli ".

History

The Appenzell beard chicken was bred in 1860 from Polveraras and partridge colored Italians. This breed is widespread in Central Europe, particularly in Switzerland bit. The existing dwarf form only exists in Switzerland.

Appearance

The Appenzell beard chicken has an almost rectangular body shape with broad shoulders and a medium length, slightly sloping back. Striking is the breast mound with the hen. the legs are heavily feathered. The name derives from the undivided chin and whiskers, the wattles and ear disks is covered. This rugged country chicken is very vital, a very good layers and particularly well suited for harsh climates. The breed is rosenkämmig.

The food should not be too mushy to avoid sticking of the beard. These chickens are also grow fast and breed very well.
