Appius Junius Silanus

Gaius Appius Junius Silanus († 42 AD) was a Roman patrician of the gens Iunia.

In 28 he was consul. 32 AD he was charged with laesa maiestas, but acquitted.

In the year 40 he was legate in Hispania Tarraconensis. From there, the Emperor Claudius called him back after half a year to marry him to his mother Domitia Lepida. He probably should be connected by marriage to the mother of the Empress even more closely with the Emperor, perhaps even as a possible successor, because Claudius ' son Britannicus was born a month later.

42 AD conspired the imperial freedman Narcissus and the Empress Messalina against Silanus. It is alleged that Silanus Messalina had resisted seduction attempts. They told Claudius that they had both dreamed Silanus wanted to murder him. When the actually appeared a little later of Narcissus Emperor ordered, Claudius believed the allegations and let Silanus executed without trial.
